Period 2: The Catch Up

Disclosure and access (late 2020s & 2030s) ‍

For at least the last 100 years some of the most significant breakthroughs, inventions, and discoveries have been held back from public knowledge in the interests of national security. These potential innovations would have made society more free and self-determining, but for the same reason they also threatened the hegemony of the powers that be (or were). But it was impossible to keep a lid on these breakthroughs indefinitely, and following the ongoing war for global control in which the old powers have had to give way, there is now a process of disclosure of knowledge, science, and technology which will transform society at every level.

The effect will be to accelerate society to where it would have been by now if the breakthroughs had not been withheld. This will be profound future shock that will reverberate for decades. It will also be a significant challenge. We are about to be jolted from despondency to exhilaration. We are going to find ourselves responsible for determining the best use of these new powers for humanity as a whole. Above all we will need to keep our balance as we rise to the task and make the most of this extraordinary opportunity.
